Remembering the Life of Jesus (with instructional DVD)
Remembering the Life of Jesus is a remarkable way to restore the joy of worship into the lives of people with dementia. It brings the reality of the love that Jesus has for us alive to those for whom “regular” worship is no longer an option. The method is to put pictures, Scripture, and objects to touch and smell in combination to stimulate the mind and heart. This brings a high level of alertness and pleasure, as shown by careful research using the book, done by its author, Dr. Diana Walters, who is a specialist in gerontological studies.
Her research, possibly the first empirical study done to test a methodology of worship for this population, found that women with mid-stage Alzheimer’s showed five times as much alertness and pleasure in response to a ministry visit using Remembering the Life of Jesus as to a visit that offered the same subject matter content but delivered with the traditional “talk to” method. Certainly those who are afflicted with dementia deserve to have the best ministry opportunities delivered to them that are available.
The book is 21.5cm x 28cm, printed on durable 12 point coated stock. It is wire bound to open flat and for ease of handling. It has 32 pages, 16 full-color pictures, 11 objects. (Due to the handcrafted nature of the book, these vary slightly.)
A DVD with instructions and demonstration will show you how to use it. This provides visitors and family members confidence that they can visit a person with Alzheimer’s or other dementia and provide an experience that fulfills the person’s longing for spiritual nourishment.
A multi-sensory book and guide for its use.
